It was a dream for Latin America and the world. The mixture of parisian chic with Mexican folk, happening live in Mexico City itself, is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The ambiance at the Dior Cruise 2024 show included murals by Diego Rivera while the arches in the central patio of the Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso served to frame presentation in Mexico City.
Despite the fact that the rain did not stop, this was not an impediment for the collection to be presented successfully to all those present.
The great protagonist of this collection was the butterfly, which was present in accessories such as necklaces, patterns, belts and even on invitations. All the models were even combed with two braids joined at the back and, at the bottom of the neck, they all wore a butterfly.
Among the Mexican inspiration that we could see in the pieces presented by Dior is the charro suit, which was present in the bar jacket of the Parisian house and in many short jackets with an embroidery alluding to charrería. And, of course, what the world was all waiting for: the inspiration of Frida Khalo.
Maria Grazia used the song “Canción sin miedo” by Vivir Quintana in the background, better known as a hymn against femicide, becoming a moment of moment and sisterhood. The rain did not stop during the entire show, but it added drama to this powerful show in Mexico that put the violence experienced in the latin country in the spotlight.
