Modeling is a gene running in Eelyn Sato’s family, one can say. Her mother was a model for Levis Jeans. Evelyn Sato told us about her first experience as a model, “I was 11 years old. It was in Manhattan. That memory is still fresh in my heart!”
All were unexpected for little Evelyn. Andrew Lauren was walking his dog on a street in Manhattan. She was walking with her mom. He stopped, introduced himself, and asked her if she was a model. The rest unfolded with her meeting Ralph Lauren and walking for the Ralph Lauren company.
The experience with Ralph Lauren has prepared her with the business mindset and strength she needs to manage her own business later on.
At the age of 24, Evelyn Sato graduated with her Master’s Degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology. She told us with a smile, “I found myself being the wise friend whom others would call to talk about things they needed advice on or to talk about.”
She developed an interest in psychology after picking up a college-level textbook from a book store during high school.
In all those years, her passion for fashion has never waned. She was signed with NYC modeling agencies throughout school and did modeling mostly during summer, winter breaks, or in-between undergraduate and graduate school.
For her, “being a model is owning your business. It comes with many roles you need to manage yourself to be successful. Investing in yourself with selfcare, a healthy lifestyle, constantly networking, and building and maintaining relationships within the fashion industry are some of the core elements of this business.”
Psychology can be considered a form of art when doing therapy. Sato has applied the art of psychology to her modeling. Her background in psychology built her up to understand a person’s story, which translates well into modeling and acting.
You would not believe how many languages she can speak: English, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. Sato explained, “My family spoke Polish, so it was a language I was taught from a young age. I studied Spanish in school. Many of the languages I learned and remembered came from interacting with the language.” Being multilingual opens her up to understanding and connecting with people on a closer level.
Sato enjoys yoga, exercising, singing and dancing. She loves going to the beach, whether to sunbathe and swim or jet ski. Besides all that, boating has been her all-time favorite hobby.
As a model, she loves to play with fashion, “I love to create outfits that are unique.” Pairing shoes and a purse can take her from a daytime casual look to something more fit for dinner at a restaurant.
Looking back, Sato said “doing what I was passionate about throughout my life has always brought about the greatest success in any of my pursuits. Everything that I do, I do with passion.”
The motto of her life is “Live your life to the fullest”. Life is unpredictable, and anything can happen. Being raised in a family where respect, good manners, kindness, and compassion towards others were core values, Evelyn Sato concluded, “That is, in part, how I became who I am today.”
