In Remy Bond’s world, music is more than a melody. It’s a time machine

With her, the past and future converge in a symphony of sound and story, an invitation to embark on a journey through artistry.

“I grew up a Chelsea Girl in New York. My parents would play a lot of old music for me from a young age,” Remy Bond, the singer and song writer of the recent End of the World started her story.  Remy’s journey into the realm of music began with an extraordinary neighbor, Sean Lennon. His melodies danced through the walls, serenading her dreams and sowing the seeds of her musical destiny. “My parents were really into art: My mom and dad are activists, my Grandfather was a cinema actor and my godfather wrote the I Have a Dream speech.”

Remy Bond was a writer before a musician. In her view, it’s just about having something to say and then choosing the art form to express it in.

Harper’s Bazaar (HBZ): Your song End of the World released recently has captured the attention of many listeners. Can you share the inspiration behind this particular track and what message or emotions you aimed to convey through it?

REMY BOND: We are living in precarious times. What with Ai and global warming threatening our very existence, there seems to be so much anxiety in the world. In our industry we have strikes creating more levels of uncertainty; it makes me worry about the future of art in our industry. That’s why I’m really into the 60’s and 70’s— they stood for simpler times before technology started taking over so much of our lives.

HBZ: Your work has involved collaboration with notable producers like TTrrruuces and Robopop. How have these collaborations influenced your musical journey and the sound of your upcoming EP?

REMY BOND: What attracted me is how their production style is so cinematic. For example, Suki Waterhouse’s, Good Looking, is like a visual soundtrack when you listen to it.

HBZ: Your upcoming EP combines futuristic space music with a sense of nostalgia for the golden age of Hollywood. How many songs will be contained in this EP? Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind this unique blend of styles?

REMY BOND: The Golden Age of Hollywood and Classic Rock’n’Roll are major inspirations for me when creating music. I often feel I would have been more at home in that era.

HBZ: Your approach to music is described as having a cinematic quality. Could you share how your time on screen has influenced your music-making process and style?

REMY BOND: From the time I was acting as a child, the advice I was always given was that you really have to bring yourself to each character. So whether it’s music or acting, you’re not playing the part, you’re being it.

HBZ: It’s interesting to hear that you’ve shot music videos on an iPod and incorporated super 8 footage and childhood iMovies. Can you share the creative process behind these videos and how they complement your music?

REMY BOND: My music video, End of The World was recorded on an old ipod from The Chelsea Hotel. It played in theaters before the Oppenheimer movie. The song itself questions what the future holds, so just to have that grainy quality music video playing before a blockbuster is captivating.

HBZ: Nostalgia seems to be a recurring theme in your work. What is it about the golden age of Hollywood that captivates you, and how do you translate that into your music?

REMY BOND: When I look back on these eras, the simplicity seems more glamorized, especially when today’s world is so complex. Everything is so fast today, and looking back at those times just slows it down a bit.

HBZ: Your journey as an artist seems to involve a unique blend of visual and musical storytelling. Can you talk about how these two aspects intersect in your creative process?

REMY BOND: Whether it’s vinyl or a jukebox, I liked the idea of someone putting a quarter into a jukebox and pressing play for End of The World, that’s why I released my song with a video of it playing on my jukebox.

HBZ: Lastly, what can fans and listeners expect from Remy Bond in the near future? Any upcoming projects or performances you’d like to share?

REMY BOND: My cover is inspired by my favorite movie Paris, Texas. I am currently working on a short film for my music video which recreates some of Jane’s scenes.
